Transform Our Future gatherings

We are thrilled that, after a long break, Transitioners will gather in person in 2023! Will you join us?

We know the value of sharing our stories, challenges and skills with each other – it renews our passion, recharges our batteries and brings fresh ideas and learning into our work. We’ve named these gatherings  “Transform Our Future”, a chance to connect, collaborate and re-imagine the movement – and the world – we want to build.

Two regional gatherings are being organised in partnership with local Transition groups, one in London during May and in the North West in June. We’ll be offering support to other regions to host their own gatherings next year – watch this space.

What to expect

Each gatherings will include time to see Transition projects in action and to explore the challenges and opportunities of community-led change.

Our current funding allows us to offer the gathering programmes without any charge. If you are able to and find value in the event, you are invited to make a donation to support others to attend and widen our work.

We recognise some people face other costs in attending. We can offer some bursaries to help towards costs such as travel, childcare or other support where it would remove barriers to you taking part.

Transform our Future – North West

We cannot wait to gather at Greenslate Farm, a community supported agriculture project founded by Transition Billinge and Orrell in 2012. The farm includes a straw bale cafe, farm shop, food growing, animals, wildlife projects and therapeutic placements. Read more

It’s the perfect backdrop for a weekend of meaningful connection between the myriad of activists in the North West, recharging your batteries, sharing your work and our inspiration for building a better future. Find out more about what to expect below. Bookings are now open!

North West Programme

The weekend is for people involved in Transition groups AND all groups in the North West working towards transformative change in how we live, where we live. If your heart is in campaigning, gardening, protesting injustice or building alternatives in energy, transport, food or how we organise society, we’d love you to join us.

Our programme is designed to build networks and solidarity, explore how we connect and support each other, and grow everyone’s impact for change.

Saturday (10am – 7pm)

Learn about Transition and our hosts Greenslate Community Farm, before a morning of relationship building across our networks. After lunch, take part in our Marketplace of Action – a chance to share your group, projects – and together we’ll explore the syneries, challenges and opportunities to work together. The day finishes with time to enjoy music, BYO drinks and snacks.

Sunday (10am – 4pm)

Transition co-founder Rob Hopkins will take us on a journey of the imagination to the future we want to build, and we’ll work on how we tell enticing stories of our work to invite others in. We’ll explore how we stay connected, online and in the region. Time together will leave you inspired, energised, lighter, more determined, with new ideas and collaborators and definitely more connected than ever before.

Practicalities

Greenslate Community Farm is on the outskirts of Wigan (see it on a map here). Some limited camping pitches are available on site – please indicate when you book that you are interested and we’ll share more information. We can offer some bursaries to help towards costs such as travel, childcare or other support where it would remove barriers to you taking part. Please let us know when you book.

Starting in Kingston, we’ll visit two thriving community gardens then help out at the Save Our World club warehouse, a project that’s diverted 900 tonnes from landfill. After a surplus food lunch, it’s on to Transition Town Tooting and Grow Lewisham for an afternoon of exploration and inspiration.

13 May – See Our Future Day 2

10-6pm Join all or part of the day, touring Transition projects in East and North London. Join Transition IG3’s intergenerational upcycling session – bring an old T-shirt to transform. Visit Transition Town Ilford Forest Garden in the heart of a popular local park. Then on to Hornsey Rise Meadow Orchard and cob house, finishing at Transition Kentish Town for mocktails provided by the urban veg box project which emerged from the group. The day finishes with a social and a chance to share what’s inspired us.

14 May – Build Our Future
